Friday 3 October was D Day... Demolition Day... This is the day our kitchen got totally demolished!! Paul our builder and his offsider, Chris, arrived at 7.00am on the dot!! It was pitch black still, so had to set up the spot lights for them as all the power in the kitchen had been disconnected the day before! Didn't get a photo of this unfortunately!
It didn't take Paul and Chris very long to rip out all the cabinets (what was left), the jib and exiting walls down. They were finished around 2.30pm.

The metal tube hanging through the ceiling is the existing flu above the cook top... this eventually got trimmed inside the cavity area so we can use it to connect the new range hood.
The bench that you can see above is going to be relocated in the garage for another work bench. Dave's going to have a great man cave when its finished!!!

It looks so much bigger now the wall and the cabinets have gone, it has really opened it all up.
Also had the plumber on site too sorting out all the original gas and water pipes ready to install new water pipes for the laundry and kitchen appliances on Monday. It was funny, every time Paul ripped off a piece of jibbing we would find more copper gas pipes!!! We even found a length of gas pipe in the wall where we want to install the freestanding cooker, which has a gas cook top. This was a bonus as we didn't know it was there!!! This saves the plumber having to install new piping :-)

When I could, I got stuck in and helped them remove all the rubble and kept the site swept clean. Mainly stayed out there way!!! I did have a good clean up after everyone had left though!
Paul returned the following day, Saturday, to install the framing for the new walls ready for the electrician to install the cabling and the plumber to finish off the piping for the appliances etc.

Can't wait to fill in this doorway above!
It will be great once the hallway cupboard doorway is filled in too, then this wall will be a great space to hang art along it.
The Kitchen joiner also arrived on Saturday to check his measurements etc. too.
Progress is being made :-))

A kitchen redo is not just like any redo; there's some disruption as well, since you can't make use of the full facilities while it's underway. I'm sure you've got a backup for that. Anyway, good luck on this one, and hopefully it comes out exactly as you've planned it. Good luck!

Hi Laverne, thanks for your comment. Yes backup plan in progress, we are utilising a spare bedroom as our kitchen, along with our bbq and crockpot for cooking, so hopefully not too many takeaways!!. We are lucky that our existing kitchen sink bench was plumbed into our garage so we can do our dishes. I hope it comes out exactly as I planned too!! Cheers Suzie
